Options include a concrete slab, point or strip footings (typically about 80 cm deep in Austria and Germany to ensure frost resistance), compacted gravel, or a paved surface. The foundation should be about 10 cm above the surrounding ground—this protects against splashing water. |

An uneven or insufficiently strong foundation can cause the frame to warp, resulting in doors and windows that stick or gaps forming. Such damage is not covered by the warranty. |

Keep a clear space around the plants so the walls can dry. Water must be able to drain away from the sauna. |
| Wood Preservation |
After assembly, treat the exterior surfaces with wood preservative and inspect them at least twice a year. Do not paint or varnish the interior—the wood must be able to breathe. |
| Clarify before purchasing |
Whether a Outdoor Sauna in Austria requires a permit depends on the state, the size, and the zoning plan—the limits range from 10 m² in Lower Austria to 40 m² in Styria. Distance requirements from property lines are also determined by each state. Please check with your local municipality before purchasing. If you have a wood-burning stove, you’ll also need to have it inspected by a chimney sweep. |
