What is ozone disinfection?

Ozone sounds like science or something from weather research at first, doesn't it? In fact, ozone (O₃) is an extremely powerful oxidizing agent - and has been used in water treatment for decades. It consists of three oxygen atoms and has the ability to decompose bacteria, viruses, algae and organic substances in a matter of seconds - without leaving any residue!

How does ozone disinfection work in a Hot tub?

Are there any disadvantages?

Well, no system is perfect. Ozone disinfection also has a few things you should know:

  • Ozone is unstable and breaks down quickly. It is therefore only active in the water circuit, but not in the entire pool.
  • It does not replace 100 % of water care - but it greatly reduces it. An occasional pH check or small filter change is still necessary.
